Run a Union County Docket Search

Start a Union County docket search with Indiana's MyCase portal, which covers the county's one court of record. Look up a case by number, a party's name, a business, or an attorney. The smart move is simple. Begin with the narrowest field you know, confirm the court and case type, then read the Chronological Case Summary in date order. When an online result is missing, thin, or restricted, the Union County Clerk is the official fallback for the real record. Court dates, filed documents, certified copies, and bulk data each follow their own access path.

Name-Based Union County Case Searches

Indiana MyCase offers Case, Name, and Attorney tabs. No login is needed. On the Name tab, type the last name first. First name, middle name, and birth date only work alongside a last name. A business or organization name sits in a separate path. It cannot be mixed with person fields. If the results come back broad, narrow them down. Union County, status, case category, or filed dates all work as filters.

Wildcards help too. A trailing wildcard works after at least one letter or number. It cannot fill the whole field. Sounds-like searching aids fuzzy names but never pairs with a wildcard. Results cap at 1,000. Narrow a common surname before drawing any conclusions from what a Union County case search returns.

  1. Open MyCase and select Name.
  2. Enter the last name or the separate business name.
  3. Select Union County and a fitting case category.
  4. Add status or filing dates when known.
  5. Open only the result whose court, caption, and case type match.

Union MyCase Search Fields

The Case tab takes one identifier at a time: case number, citation number, or cross reference. You cannot combine them in a single query. On the Attorney tab, search by name or attorney number. Court and case category filters refine any tab. Union County categories include CR Criminal & Citation, CV Civil, FAM Family, and PR Probate. The live MyCase search form shows those public fields.

The tabs each serve a purpose. Put a citation in its own identifier field. A business name belongs on the Name tab's organization path.

Union County Case Number Searches

An exact case number is the cleanest Union County lookup. Union Circuit Court carries the identifier 81C01. The uniform pattern runs 81C01-YYMM-TYPE-SEQUENCE. Take 81C01-2608-CM-000001, which is illustrative only and not a live record. The digits break down simply. The 81 stands for Union County. C01 marks Circuit Court. The rest covers the filing year and month, a case-type code, and the sequence.

Hyphens and leading zeros are optional per MyCase search tips. Retry without punctuation if a lookup stalls. Leave the substantive digits and type code untouched. Select Union County and a matching category. Then compare the returned case number, court, caption, and filed date. A code can hint at the record category. When a label is unfamiliar, the current case summary and Indiana Administrative Rule 8 settle the question.

One Union Court, Several Categories

Union Circuit Court 81C01 is the county's only listed court of record. Under the local caseload plan it handles every case filed in the Union County Clerk's Office. There is no separate docket to hunt down. So don't look for a Union Superior Court, county court, small-claims court, Liberty municipal court, or West College Corner municipal court. Small claims, traffic, family, juvenile, and probate records still exist. They simply live as case types within the one county structure.

That structure makes the case category matter. CR routes criminal docket and citation searches. CV handles civil cases. FAM and PR carry family and probate matters. Keep one caution in mind. These labels do not guarantee equal public access to every underlying record. Juvenile, protective, family, and probate cases can carry limits. An ordinary civil case never would.

Union Case Search Results Explained

A result opens with the case header. It may expand into parties, attorneys, charges, bonds, events, hearings, sentence fields, and financial information. The CCS is the chronological docket history. Read it forward from the filed event. Do not reduce the case to its current status. Linked papers appear only where the Clerk or court has made a public document link available. The official generic case-summary template shows the available result areas.

The template shows the full range of possible fields. A single case may display fewer items, depending on its type, history, or access status.

HeaderCaption, court, number, type, status, filed date, and flags
PeoplePublic party roles and attorney appearances
CCSFiled events, motions, orders, settings, and outcomes in time order
DocumentsPublic links where supplied, not every paper in the official file
FinancialsLimited transactions or balances that may need Clerk verification

Union Docket Status Can Mislead

Open and closed are handy filters. Neither tells you the whole outcome. "Closed" can follow a dismissal, a judgment, a plea, a sentence, a decree, a transfer, or something else entirely. A granted motion may resolve just one issue. A hearing entry proves an event was scheduled, not what happened in the courtroom. For the real answer, read the later CCS entry and the actual public order.

Verification rule: MyCase warns that errors or omissions may occur. Confirm a disposition, balance, hearing result, or certified fact with the Union County Clerk.

Treat financial displays with care. Interest and recent Clerk adjustments may not show up online. A listed balance is not necessarily a civil judgment payoff or the amount due on payment day.

County and State Search Are One Layer

For Union County state cases, MyCase is both the statewide portal and the county's main online case-search layer. The Odyssey court list confirms court identifier 81C01. The Clerk keeps the local filings, orders, judgments, and court money. These sources work as one layer, not two complete databases competing.

SourceBest useLimit
MyCasePublic index, CCS events, and some linked documentsNot the official record
Union County ClerkOfficial file, copies, certification, and local questionsRequest and payment rules must be confirmed
OJA bulk routeAuthorized compiled or broad court dataMyCase must not be treated as an export API
PACERFederal casesDoes not search Union state cases

Indiana appellate matters sit in separate state-level records. A federal case belongs in PACER or CM/ECF, not MyCase, even when a party or event has a Union County connection.

Union Search Fallback Channels

When MyCase comes up empty, the Union County Clerk is the next stop. Susan Ray heads the office. It sits on the first floor at 26 West Union Street, Liberty, Indiana 47353. Call 765-458-6121, email clerk@unioncountyin.us, or fax 765-458-5263 once you confirm fax works for your request. Nonconfidential court records can also be reviewed in person through the Clerk's process.

Ask before mailing anything. Delivery options, copying charges, and accepted payment vary. The county has no posted docket-specific dropbox or mail instructions. For an offline public record, send a reasonably particular request under Indiana Code 5-14-3. Send it to the office responsible for the file. Spell out the scope and pay the reproduction costs. Certified copies travel the Clerk route; transcripts go through the court reporter.

Union Calendar Is a Separate Search

The Indiana Court Calendar is not a second copy of MyCase. It lists daily hearings for participating courts over a date window you choose. Union County has no participating court in that system. That gap does not mean the county has no cases or hearings. It means the calendar tool will not surface them. Rely on the CCS and direct contact with the court instead. The official county-and-court calendar screen shows how participation is selected.

A case search chases one record. A calendar search follows one date. For room numbers, resets, and same-day confirmation, the Union County court schedule lays out the fallback steps.

Which Union Cases Stay Restricted

Not every Union County case appears on MyCase. Sealed, expunged, confidential, juvenile, and some protection-order matters stay off the public docket. Full documents can be missing. That happens when no public link exists, and older paper court records may never have been digitized. Indiana Rule on Access to Court Records 5 lists the excluded case and document categories. It also requires redaction of personal identifiers. Ordinary searches need no login. Party access codes and attorney portal rights are separate, limited paths. An Indiana Courts account still will not open every case. A party can link to an eligible case with an access code. An attorney of record may get access tied to the representation. Neither route beats a sealing order or the access rules. For a genuinely excluded record, Access Rule 9 offers a verified court process. It comes with notice, response, and a possible hearing. It is not a search shortcut.

Union Workload Data Is Not Case Lookup

ICOR is Indiana's system for certified annual court statistics. It can show Union Circuit Court filing and disposition totals by broad category. What it cannot do is locate a party, case number, or hearing. The figures may also be provisional or amended later. Keep ICOR well apart from MyCase. The official ICOR dashboard provides county, court, year, and report controls.

Use ICOR to gauge court workload. Use MyCase and the Clerk to find and verify an actual Union County case.

Union County Docket Search Limits

MyCase runs an anti-automation control. Repeat a docket search too often and the challenges multiply. Narrow any legitimate lookup by court, status, category, and filing dates. For a broad or compiled request, the Office of Judicial Administration process under Administrative Rule 9 is the right door. It is not the public portal. MyCase also caps results at 1,000. That is one more reason to start from the narrowest reliable fact.

Union County Docket Verification

Check the caption first. Then check the court number, case type, and filed date. Next, read the CCS to its newest entry. If no document link appears, contact the Clerk. Do not assume the filing never existed. When you need an authenticated court record, order a certified copy. If the public summary conflicts with the maintained Clerk file, the Clerk file controls.
